Emotional safe spaces for teens in a world that doesn’t always SEE them!
Nomveliso Mbanga Teencoaching Retreats™
What Are Teencoaching Retreats?
Teencoaching retreats are structured, immersive coaching experiences designed specifically for preteens, teenagers, and young adults. These retreats offer a n emotionally & physically safe and supportive environment where young people can develop emotional intelligence, resilience, leadership skills, and a strong sense of identity. They go beyond traditional motivational talks, integrating coaching methodologies to help participants make lasting changes in their mindset and behavior.
Teencoaching retreats exist to address the unique challenges that young people face, including academic pressure, social struggles, self-doubt, and family dynamics. Many teens lack structured guidance in personal development, and these retreats provide the necessary tools and coaching to help them navigate adolescence with confidence and clarity.
The retreats are based on the belief that young people don’t just need advice—they need structured coaching experiences that help them implement positive habits, set goals, and build emotional resilience in a way that is sustainable and impactful.
Our is an Indigenous Centred Approach to Coaching - Using informal education space to support formalised institution and be a bridge for youth to understand the value of all types of educational entities and to be a feeder to formalised education.
We use the national school calendar for our Retreat dates and we do checks on academic performance hence we use Grades instead of ages.
“ .. bagotywa bebatsha - a tree can only be bent when its a reed” - Nguni Proverb
When I first heard about this proverb above, as a child, I had a mental image of a tree in its grown start and a reed in its infants. I grew up in the villages at a time where fetching wood from the forest was still a thing, I saw lots of mothers fighting & wrestling with strong logs trying to make them small enough to fit their "inyanda”. It was always a mission.
Our focus in teen work is to attempt to guide a child’s emotional & mental state while there is still a chance to do, before habits have totally sunk in. Our kids go through a lot of growing stages, most of them are often influenced by society more than families. If we wait too long to review their mindset, their view of the world and the view of their own-selves; we might wake up when its too late or too hard to change things around
Our Signature Retreats
Pre-Teens (Grade 5 to 7 Only)
This group is usually in Primary School, at a stage where they are aware of the world around them, yet battling to articulate the emotions they feel. Often they witness a lot of things: at home, at school, in the community at large as well as their ever changing bodies. We use this session to shine the light on these, help give clarity and attempt to explain the world around it way that will not cripple but build.
Teen Boys Only (Grade 8 to 11)
This group is usually in High School, a stage where they are at the rebellion stage. Trying to form independence from family, often highly influenced by friends. We usually say “"it takes a village to raise a child”, in this group this village forms around teens automatically. We can either influence or help them form or choose this village or we can leave them to their vices. We create safe space to question and make informed decisions.
Teen Girls Only (Grade 8 to 11)

Our Retreats Highlights
From the very beginning of our journey, our vision was to create a space for teenagers that is not only physically safe but also emotionally supportive, safe. A place where they are seen, heard, and assisted in unpacking and understanding life as it unfolds. We have hosted over 20 retreats as a solo business, and the year 2025 will mark our 10th anniversary as a formally registered business. This is a huge milestone by all accounts.
